The huge network of old logging trails networking the Panhandle National forest system offers hundreds of miles of steep to rolling terrain. The Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes

The scenic Trail of the Coeur d'Alene's is a paved, well-maintained multi-us trail connecting Mullan a mountain town near the Idaho-Montana line, to Plummer, Idaho just southwest of Lake Coeur d'Alene. This trail route is truly a gem of North Idaho when it comes to cross-country biking. The trip is truly gorgeous and offers short day trips from trailhead to trailhead, or a multi-day adventure. Many folks like taking a leisurely pace to complete the 73 mile trail over the course of a long weekend while staying overnight in a few of the communities along the trail route. Wildlife and vistas abound throughout the course of the trail system. Many protected marsh-lands, lakes and prairies provide bikers with numerous wildlife sightings and photography opportunities. It is not uncommon to see deer, moose, elk, swans, hawks, eagles and a wide array of other bird life. During spring the surrounding landscape erupts with color with a large diversity of wildflowers within the valleys and along hillsides.
